Believe it or not I actually missed most of Blackhat. I had been assigned to several government conferences that week, and arrived at the night of the first day of BH, just in time to get severely hassled by the bouncers at our party. That was kind of funny though ... "Look man, I know everyone here outside is saying they belong in there, but I can guarantee I'm the only one with the home phone number of the man paying for it all " ...that finally got me in, but just with about 30 minutes left on the party. The next day was booth duty at 8 am, but I got to do that with Jeff and it rocked. He was a *monster* in the booth; worked it harder than anyone else and pretty much harder than anyone I'd ever seen; he was scanning left and right, asking the right questions, just going about it perfectly. This will sound crazy, but watching him at booth duty kind of made my day. I can't wait for it this year, but my lord it's one hell of a busy booth ... I miss the days when we *didn't* have a booth and I could actually mingle with customers, go to sessions , etc ... one day though ;)

I didn't view the video because stuff like this always makes me miss being in the office :(

And besides, leaving the Terraces was just depressing. That place was special. Not that the new offices aren't special too, it's just a different kind of special.

I couldn't agree more. It was really pretty lousy to see several folks I respect and admire fall into that downward spiral, and even worse was the feeding frenzy it created within other social rings ... I mean come on folks, if you have time for that stuff then you're clearly not working hard enough :)

Hey man, that's what happens when you try to use fashion accroutrements as phones. You know all self-respecting geeks carry HTC's, right ? They're kind of like iPhones, except they do more and cost less.

2 weeks ago after checking into my return flight from Sau Paulo I realized my phone was still in the cab. Check out this horrendous ordeal I went through with T-Mobile to get a new HTC device:

I arrive into O'Hare at something like 5:30, get on a 7:30 flight back to DC. I arrive in DC at something like 11:30, race home for a very quick shower and change, then back down to the New York Ave office for a meeting. I leave there, hit the T-mobile store in the Columbia Mall around 3:30. I buy the latest HTC handset, which costs less than the iPhone. The rep suggests that I could drop the price on my plan and get unlimited usage with a new plan, he's right, I concur to the cheaper plan. In 5 minutes my phone is up and working, and I call the office.

All in all I the total duration of when I would have normally been available by phone but wasn't (due to the loss) was only about 2 hours.

I love the Windows Mobile 6. With the security pack, I can now use MMS for work (whereas you just get IMAP) which lets me do things like query the GAL for contacts I don't have locally. I haven't directly compared Apple's implementation of OodleMaps, but I suspect the LiveSearch Microsoft supplied on WM6 does more
